Originally a brewery district, Mount Pleasant is still characterized by old brick buildings, an industrial vibe, and the old steam clock at the intersection of Main and Kingsway. In recent years the area has undergone development and revitalization. With housing costs still well below downtown real estate prices, Mount Pleasant has attracted an increase in first time home owners, young professionals and families. Home to a number of artists and writers, the neighbourhood is both urban and hip, with businesses that reflect the residents’ creative spirit. The area is home to a number of local, independent stores and service-based businesses.
